The SW LA knap-in is a twice annual event held among the piney woods of Nibletts Bluff Park, in Vinton, LA (between Lake Charles, LA and Orange, TX). Each Spring and Fall Flintknappers and vendors from across the country meet to exchange techniques, sell, trade, and to renew old acquaintances from earlier knap-ins.
The curious and those wanting to learn are very much welcome to browse among the canopies (and perhaps a teepee) of knappers busily breaking flint or sitting enjoying conversation. Join in and learn the ancient secrets of making arrowheads and stone tools. Far different from anything you have ever experienced with friendly folks eager to share. The kind and welcoming host, Tex Holloway, is the heart and soul of the event. You won't get away without meeting him.
This is a family oriented event so bring the kids. Besides, it's free! The spring-time event coincides with a thrilling Civil War re-enactment also taking place in the park.
THE NEXT EVENT: October 27-30, 2011
